The Brigstowe Dragons and Fixing Forcalquier are both still free on Amazon until 25 August, and I have shifted a few copies. I just checked the rankings for Brigstowe Dragons on Amazon US and Amazon UK.
Of course, Amazon has zillions of little categories, and indeed, there are books for sale on Amazon that tell you how to use keywords and clever ploys to get to the top of one or another and look good. I don’t bother with all that, but seeing a ranking is nice.
Fixing Forcalquier doesn’t have a ranking yet in the UK but does in the USA. God bless America!
Starting at midnight Pacific Time on 21 August 2024 until midnight on 25 August – five whole days! – both Brigstowe Dragons and Fixing Forcalquier are free on Amazon as eBooks. Midnight Pacific Time is 0700 hours Greenwich Mean Time so if you live in the UK they’re ready when you wake up! Click on Amazon UK or US links to get the books or at your local Amazon site.
In Brigstowe, the capital of Wessex, King Tobrytan has fallen under the influence of the evil sorcerer Kemshah, and no one is safe. Rich and poor alike pay heavy taxes, and anyone who protests is declared a traitor. The dragons who protect the city are helpless because Kemshah has stolen their eggs, and they dare not defy him.
Kenric is a telepath, a Thinker, who works in the dragon caves. His father has been arrested for treason and will be executed in three days. Kenric must save him and free Brigstowe from the tyrant’s yoke. His only hope lies with a band of outlaws and a stranger from a strange land.
When a Tyrannosaurus Rex from the Jurassic era and an American businessman from the 21st century are magically transported to mediaeval Provence, they threaten to change the past and imperil the future. A celestial entity called the Fixer sends the sorcerer Orph and his wily assistant Orcas to sort things out and put history back on track. Aided by a cobbler’s apprentice and his family they soon get involved with the court of Count Guilham of Forcalquier and his lovely daughter Garsenda. Then they have to deal with the most fearsome predator ever to walk the Earth! A ripping yarn with touches of humour, Fixing Forcalquier is an adventure young adults will enjoy.
These two fantasies are loosely linked in ways that become apparent as you read them. Fixing Forcalquier was written ages ago as a hobby project over many years and has not been published or validated by any editor, but I like it. Alban Lake Publishing editor Tyree Campbell first issued three of the Brigstowe Dragons books as individual novellas, but I have the rights now, so I added a fourth book to wrap up the story and tie it more closely to Fixing Forcalquier. The real Forcalquier is a town in Haute Provence, France, and I spent a year there in the early nineties. My version’s history is slightly different but that’s the advantage of a Multiverse: you can have fun!
If you read the books and enjoy them, a review is much appreciated. If you hate them, for God’s sake, keep quiet!
