H.P. Lovecraft’s short story The Unnamable was turned into a film in 1988 and has been re-released. Here’s my review on sfcrowsnest. 

From curiosity, I reread the original work. The Unnamable is very early Lovecraft (1923) and I was curious to see if he had originated the four college kids being terrorized by a monster in a haunted house genre. He had not. The scriptwriter/ producer/ director tacks that all onto the end of Lovecraft’s very short yarn.

But the film is entertaining enough and maybe a grade above awful B-movies – a B plus, perhaps. Not that there’s anything wrong with B-movies. I like them.

Anyone interested in the history of golden age science-fiction might like it. Even if you have read other biographies of Heinlein and Asimov it contains much of interest.

Not recommended for anyone who thinks L. Ron Hubbard was the Messiah.
