My posts are not ‘awesome’

Often when I write a blog post I get emails from WordPress telling me that ‘so-and-so liked your post’ and ‘They thought My dog wears hats’ was pretty awesome.’

Well, it wasn’t. This is pure hyperbole and the language of advertising. I love WordPress and embrace the opportunity it gives for ordinary folks to have their say and communicate with the world but not every post is awesome. None of mine is awesome. Not one.

Every time I watched the news and some member of the public is asked to comment on something nice they say it was ‘amazing’. Everything is overstated. ‘Awesome’ is even better than ‘amazing’ and both are used to refer to things which were once ‘quite nice’ or ‘okay’.

I’m pleased when I get several likes for a post and glad I’ve brightened someone’s day but my words of unwisdom are not awesome. They’re not even amazing.

But sometimes they are quite nice.

P.S. I came across this post about blogging today. I wouldn’t say it was awesome but it was very good and, a rare thing nowadays, honest.

My experience of blogging over the last three months on WordPress – The good and the ethically questionable.
