Why buy books? Well, you might want to show your appreciation in real terms, and there’s nothing more real than money. You might think an author deserves some reward for all that effort. You might think if he can eat he will produce another good book. Or you might think ‘Why buy books when I can get them free?’

It’s up to you. Either way, you might like some of these.

 

Smashwords Summer Sale!

Smashwords have a sale on with not-very-old magazines going for a dollar. Alban Lake Publishing has some good stuff going cheap. I bought a copy of Bloodbond (May 2018) for just $1.

Bloodbond features stories about vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters.

Also for a dollar, Disturbed Digest (June 2018). Horror and the macabre.

Of course, there’s lots of other stuff too. Smashwords offers downloads in epub, pdf and mobi so those unfortunates chained to kindle can buy there too. Even better, it’s a straight mobi file that you can convert easily with Calibre, not a slave to Amazon kfx file. You can even download in lrf, pdb and txt, whatever they are.

Smashwords has a retail arm but is primarily a distributor for small presses and self-publishers to Kobo and other stores that aren’t trying to rule the world with exclusive file formats, or pay workers peanuts, forbid them toilet breaks, dodge taxes while taking massive subsidies from government and kill off every other business in the universe.
